Arriving in Korea!

It was both thrilling and frightening to arrive in Korea for the first time. I arrived feeling anxious and curious, ready to start my new adventure but unsure how to handle everything. After grabbing my bags, I headed to the metro station, purchased a ticket, and located a waiting area for the upcoming train. I was in such a hurry that I didn't realize the train I was riding was an express train going directly to Seoul with no stops in between. This was a big issue since my dorm was in Incheon instead of Seoul.

I knew I would have to go back to the registration desk and request a refund because I had no other option. Saying anything in Korean seemed challenging because I didn't know much of the language at the time, but I wasn't going to let shame stop me. To my surprise, I was able to get on the right train to Incheon and communicate my needs without too much difficulty. It was tough to navigate the Korean subway system because there are so many branches, transfers, and directions that even experienced passengers can become confused. In addition, I had to carry two heavy bags and had neither a SIM card nor access to maps other than those found in train stations.

Seven hours after arriving that morning, at 5 p.m., I reached the dorm. Despite the difficult journey, I continued. I wouldn't have made it that day if I had given up or let my emotions control me. In numerous ways, this incident gave me a priceless lesson: the key to success is persistence. Particularly in new circumstances, obstacles may seem impossible to overcome, but persistence will get you through them. Success is about showing up, adapting, and not giving up even when the road ahead seems uncertain. It is not about knowing everything or being completely prepared.
